Policies

Print Failures

3D prints may fail for a variety of reasons, including spaghetti failures, poor bed adhesion, nozzle clogs, or issues with the submitted file. Spaghetti failures are among the most common and are often related to model geometry, supports, or bed adhesion.

Because these failures can be unpredictable, queue and completion times provided by 3DPrinterOS are estimates only and are not guaranteed.

Filament

The H2S is not restricted to proprietary filaments, therefore, we offer users two paths to procure filament:

Lab Supplied Filament

Lab Suppled Filament

User Supplied Filament

Users supplying their own filament must provide it to the lab prior to printing. Please note that this may increase the lead time for print completion.

File preparation

Lab staff reserve the right to reject files that are incomplete, contain errors, or are improperly prepared for 3D printing. Users are responsible for reviewing and finalizing their files before submitting them to the print queue.

Files should be checked for the following issues:

  • Non-manifold edges
  • Holes or missing faces
  • Overlapping or intersecting geometry
  • Walls that are too thin to print properly
  • Unsupported geometry
  • Scaling errors
  • Floating geometry

Notifications

Users are responsible for monitoring the email address associated with their ACE account for automated 3DPrinterOS notifications. Lab staff are not responsible for providing immediate notification when a print fails.

Users should also periodically check the status of their print directly in 3DPrinterOS.

Payment & Pickup

Completed 3D prints may be picked up in ARC 161 or ARC 168 during regular lab hours. Payment is due upon pickup.

Prints not picked up within (5) business days may be subject to disposal due to limited storage capacity.

Procedure

Standard File Preparation

Use 3DPrinterOS to prepare and queue your print file.

Advanced File Preparation

3DPrinterOS provides a cloud-based, simplified version of Bambu Studio for quick file preparation. However, advanced users or those with more complex projects may prefer the desktop version of Bambu Studio for enhanced control over the slicing process.

Files can be exported from modeling software in .STL or .STEP formats, loaded into the desktop version of Bambu Studio for detailed preparation, and then exported as G-code to be uploaded to 3DPrinterOS for printing.

The desktop version of Bambu Studio is especially useful for projects that require:

  • Multicolor PLA Printing
    • Utilize color painting functionality to create multicolor prints.
  • Advanced Support Materials
    • Bambu Support for PLA as a support/raft interface.
    • Bambu PVA for support/raft material.
  • Advanced Internal Infill Patterns
    • Choose from 18 unique infill patterns for precise control over print strength and material efficiency.
  • Manual Support
    • Take advantage of support painting functionality to manually customize support placement.

Submitting G-code to the Queue

When submitting a G-code file to the 3DPrinterOS queue, the following information must be included in the Notes section. Failure to provide this information will result in the print being rejected:

  1. Cost
  2. Build Plate Type

Example Cost Calculation

Below is an example of how much a Benchy model would cost to print once it is sliced in Bambu Studio. This model would take 4.04 meters of 1.75mm PLA filament to print and cost $0.31.
